Romans 12:2 tells us that we are to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. For a human being to actually be transformed to the point of proving out the perfect will of God, is pretty huge. This… proving out would definitely include doing the miraculous works that Jesus said we could walk in, and the greater works that He talked about. It is certainly worth putting the attention and effort into the renewing process.

Now, the renewing of our minds is not merely intellectual, but a spiritual process. Consider these verses of scripture:

“…that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind…” Eph 4:23NAS
“…but to be spiritually-minded is life and peace…” Rom. 8:6
“For God has not given us a spirit of timidity…but [a spirit] of power and love and calm and well-balanced mind…” 2 Tim 1:7NAS
“For as he thinks in his heart [not his head], so is he.Prov 23:7

The mind that the Scripture speaks of is the mind of the spirit, the place where the depths of the heart are enlightened with heavenly revelation about what is really true. This is what really causes us to think differently and behave accordingly. The truly renewed mind carries the freshness of the heavenly, infused with the sense of the Presence.

This is why we must receive the Word of God on a different level than intellectual. We receive it as the spiritual substance of Jesus, the Logos, the revelation of the invisible God.
