New Year Blog

IMG_2628 copy2Well, this is it. January 1st, 2010 and the first day of my new commitment to daily blogging.

It’s shortly after noon, and I just spent a fairly relaxed morning after an unusually late night. Even thoughI know I’m not caught up on sleep yet, I sat down with my Bible, coffee and notepad… first thing after waking. This is the time to put dreams and plans to paper for what we want to see accomplished this year. I’ll nap later.

What do I want to accomplish? What do I want to see God do this year? And of course, the real issue – what’s my part in what God wants to do? Goals must be as specific as possible in order to measure?success.?One problem?here, however, is?that starting with?writing down goals?can set them within the confines of what’s practical and realistic according to?past experience. Safe. The next stage in what I can achieve. Too safe.

So, I began by writing out the extremes of what poured out of my heart. Never mind what’s practical and do-able right now. The practical stages can be set in order afterwards. I want things that only God can do. I want to do things that I must have God in order to be able to do. Those kinds of goals come by the dreams?from heaven, by inspiration of the Spirit, birthed in the heart by waiting in the presence of God.

In the Bible, nobody accomplished anything for God that was born of their own safe reasoning faculties. In the midst of impossible circumstances, God would download a plan from heaven into the heart. Jacob was completely stuck in his life, unable to get ahead and under the thumb of Laban. How entirely ridiculous was the plan that God gave him!?As a result?of?a dream from heaven, Jacob saw the spotted, speckled, and black flocks multiplying. When he followed through in action by putting the striped and spotted poplar rods before the eyes of the flock, the power of the heavenly dream produced results. How ridiculous was God’s plan for Gideon’s wittled-down army of 300 to go out against the numberless hordes – with trumpets, torches and pitchers, no less. But once God had inspired Gideon’s heart, all that was left for Gideon’s success was obedience. The plan for Solomon’s temple was a heavenly download received by David the worshipper.

When the vision of heaven is revealed to the eyes?of the heart, it can make the outrageous seem simple. May my, may our, vision be soaked in the purposes of heaven.

In?my years of serving the Lord after being a returned prodigal, I’ve?worked at growing and maturing in the Lord, taming the flesh, and developing character; I’ve sought the gifts and the Giver; to honor those to whom honor is due;?to love. Methinks that what is needed now is a “wild child” with some stability and maturity. To love and lead without accepting passivity and excuses. It’s not the time to wait politely for opportunities to be offered, but with the Spirit of God pressing forward within, to step toward the vision.

The words on everyone’s lips are “revival” and “glory”. What’s our part in seeing those released this year? It’s up to God, but it’s up to us. How do we personally, individually co-operate and take new ground?

Enlarge the place of your tent; stretch out the curtains of your dwellings, spare not;
lengthen your cords, and strengthen your pegs. For you will spread abroad to the right and to the left. And your descendants will possess nations, and they will resettle the desolate cities.
Isaiah 54:2-3

The prodigals are returning in droves. There is also a generation that we must rescue that will also become our descendants.

Well, if I’m going to stick to this commitment to daily blogging, my blogs will have to be shorter.

Happy New Year! May God’s highest and best be truly experienced in your life this year.
